Larry Sandell 1932–2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of one of our longest serving volunteers, Larry Sandell. He was also one of our oldest—older than dirt he frequently claimed. However, official documents contend he was merely 91 years old. The records tell us that Lawrence Alfred Sandell was born December 14, 1932 in Rochester, Washington to Alfred Sandell and Edith Strand. The record fails to mention that one hundred percent of his DNA came from Terjärv, Finland.

Helping you connect dots

We are experts at researching Swedish Finn emigrants. Thousands of hours have been spent gathering resources, researching in Finnish records, and building relationships with like-minded organizations in Finland.

The Swedish Finn Historical Society is the result of a century of connection. In the North America Swedish Finn emigrants formed temperance and benefit organizations, later merging to become the Order of Runeberg.

We are the official repository of The Order of Runeberg. Our ancestors gifted us with a century of newspapers, a century of lodge records, and a century of connecting their ancestors to their roots in Finland. We can help you too!
